Being initially inspired by the shadows of trees she observed in the grass, she set about studying a method that did not convey the selected subject as a 2-dimensional representation on canvas. In this way, the object is turned into a representation of the subject. This is particularly true for living things as well as those that are likely to perish like fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's work is ephemeral and the image is left. Trompe-l'oeil art is created using the two processes of painting and photographing. This creates two-dimensional flattened image. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painted model into the environment around her, which allows for the model to be a part of the world of their own. The boundaries between performance, installation, photography and painting is thus broken.
